Guardian Heroes - Sega Saturn screen shots
That which is true in most cases, is especially true in the case of Guardian
Heroes. Screenshots and movie files do not do this game justice. These glimpses
show off both the games technical strengths in number of sprites and real transparency
on screen, and it's work arounds in both dithered transparency and transparency
that utilizes NTSC interlacing to create the effect, when in fact the actual
images are not tranluscent. Stop what you're doing, go to
ebay.com,
buy yourself a Saturn and Guardian Heroes today, and enjoy what stands as one
of the best examples of why 2D should not be dead today.
These video files were captured at 702x480 at 29.97 fps avi, downsampled and
converted to .wmv format, and then converted again to .avi DIVX at 320x240.
Although each file was tested for artifacts at 200% resolution, your results
may vary and these movie files only depict gameplay and framerate accurately,
see the pictures for an accurate portrayal of the game's image quality. Blowing
them up to full screen, or having a slow computer, will result in blurring,
artifacting or tearing not present in the actual game. I can re-capture all
of these files at 702x480, but will only do so if somebody e-mails me requesting
that I do so.
The third movie file features slight interlace related glitching and resolution
changes, particularly in the fire effect, that do not exist in the actual game,
but it does show clearly that the fire is not true transparency.
